About me
Hi! My name is Cristina. I’m a self-taught gluten-free baker. I’m half Portuguese and half German, married to a Brit who was diagnosed with celiac disease 8 years ago.
My initial stab at gluten-free baking was an absolute disaster. I think our friends
came up with excuses not to come for dinner anymore, just so they wouldn’t have to taste a dry, rock-hard home-made bread yet again!
I decided to devote my weekends and evenings to reading, testing and learning. Once I’d mastered gluten-free bread, I decided to try the near-impossible: creating a gluten-free Portuguese pastel de nata. Growing up in Lisbon, I’d never heard of anyone making these at home, much less in a gluten-free version. But, as the celiac scene in Lisbon grew, I finally found a chef willing to train me. It took me another year to master them, along with croissants and pains au chocolat.
I’m always trying to create things that are not available on the market. My only mainstream item is a chocolate chip cookie – and I think it’s pretty good. I am currently on sabbatical from my work to dedicate myself full-time to my hobby. I hope you will enjoy my products as much as I enjoy creating them.
